Have you ever been in traffic when you “knew” that a certain car was going to do something wacky? You got an impulse to change lanes, slow down or speed up. Moments later the other car made a move that would have crashed it into your car. But you were safe, because you followed your impulse.
What is that impulse?
Most people would call it intuition. I don’t like to use that word for two reasons. First, because the explanation from the Abraham perspective doesn’t fit what most people think of as intution. The other reason is, there is a subtle physical sensation involved that doesn’t fit the definition of intuition.
These impulses feel like a barely perceptible nudge from a guide. It’s a guidance system of a different flavor than the Emotional Guidance System.
It’s your other guidance system
This guidance is from a host of loving nonphysical energies. These energies are fully aware of us. They offer us nudges, encouragement, help and solutions.
For the most part we’re oblivious to those tools and guidance. Except at times when, out of the blue, we do take the hint and follow the impulse.
There is a way to become more aware of this helpful guidance
Begin by directly asking a specific question, then waiting for the immediate answer. Deciding which lane to get in, whether driving or checking out at the grocery store. There may be places you regularly drive to that have more than one route. “Ask” which lane or route to take.
Answers are “heard” in different ways
Some people “hear” an answer in their mind. Some people get an image of the checkout lane or route to take. Some people mentally play out each route and get a sensation to indicate which visualized route is the answer. There are people who will have a bodily movement that they didn’t cause (a muscle will twitch, for example).
You will be more likely to perceive the answer by one method rather than another. This is similar to some people being visual learners and some people being audio learners. You may hear your answer in a different way than what’s described here.
Whatever way you hear it, the communication will be subtle
There will be a tendency to dismiss it or to think you’re making it up. That’s a clue that you just heard it. Of course, there will be times that it makes no difference which checkout lane you choose. At those times you won’t get any answer. It takes some practice to learn to discern if there’s an answer.
Seeing the reason for the answer helps
Let’s say you’re guided to get into a long checkout line. Then your “long” line ends up moving faster than the shorter line. As you sashay away from the cashier you can see the reason why you were guided into the long line. It turns out the cashier in the “short” line was going on break and everyone had to wait while the register was cleared and the new cashier got set up.
I used to hone my guidance at a toll plaza on my daily commute. I had a default toll booth for the times when I didn’t hear an answer. But when I did hear an answer, it was very gratifying to see the reason.
One time when I was guided into a longer line, it took longer to go through the toll booth. I was puzzled until I exited the booth. The timing was such that I saw my very favorite car pass by at that moment. (I have a thing for Bentleys.)
Once you’ve learned to recognize the guidance, how do you use it?
After practicing for a while, you’ll have learned how you “hear” the answers. That’s when it’s time be open to the guidance coming to you unbidden. You’ll probably first notice it in situations where you often asked questions. Without asking, you’ll get an answer.
That’s how it will feel when you start getting impulses
Your muscle will twitch or you’ll feel the “answer” sensation out of the blue. That happened to me a few years ago on the day before our company’s holiday party, an event which I was planning.
A series of guidance nudges had me driving near the restaurant where we were going to have our party. I felt a nudge to stop at the restaurant. So I stopped — and found the restaurant locked.
Closed, shut down, kaput. And I had 40 people planning to show up here the following night, gifts in hand, for our big holiday party. First, I was paralyzed with disbelief. Then I went straight home and got on the phone.
I began dialing restaurants with private rooms
I left messages, and kept hearing “Booked up” when I did speak to someone. I told myself there was some restaurant that was going to be very happy to get a big party the next night.
Then I picked up the phone and kept dialing more restaurants. Of course,I continued to be guided — including getting the impulse to stay off the phone. During that pause is when the perfect restaurant called me back.
The restaurant that came to the rescue was in the high-end galleria mall
When I drove to the mall the next evening for the Christmas party, finding a parking space turned out to be one of those times where you have to car-stalk people walking to their cars.
I picked a couple that was walking to their car and slowly drove behind them as they walked, in order to take their parking space. Dear Reader, the people I followed got into a Bentley! Boy, did I ever feel guided about the evening as I pulled into that parking space!
You may never have an elaborate unfolding as happened with that holiday party
But you can start to be more deliberate about tapping into helpful impulses. Think about asking for input on selecting a birthday gift. Check in with this guidance system before deciding whether to accept a job, or a date, or a marriage proposal. The possibilities are endless, as long as you are attuned to the answers.
Keep yourself in tune
Continue to ask for guidance, listen for the answer and then act on the resulting impulse. The more you train your “ear,” the more you’ll “hear” the nudges, encouragement, help and solutions being offered to you every day. Who knew all this was going on when you dodged the crazy drivers in traffic.
